Steve Nicol blast Chelsea striker Lukaku for Brainless interview against Tuchel

Former Liverpool star, Steve Nicol has branded Romelu Lukaku ‘brainless’ after the Chelsea striker publicly aired his grievances with Thomas Tuchel.

In an interview recorded several weeks ago but aired on Thursday, Lukaku admitted he was ‘not happy’ with his role under his current manager and wanted to go back to Inter in the near future.

‘I’m not happy with the situation, this is normal, Tuchel has chosen to play with another system,’ Lukaku told Sky Sport Italia. ‘But I am a worker and I must not give up.

‘I want to say a big apology to the Inter fans because I think the way I left should have been different.

‘I really hope in the depths of my heart to return to Inter, not at the end of my career, but at a still good level to hopefully win more.

Since the interview, Lukaku has returned to Chelsea’s starting XI and was singled out for praise by Tuchel following Wednesday’s draw with Brighton, during which he scored for the second game in succession.

While the picture looks markedly different now, Nicol could not escape how ill-advised Lukaku’s comments were and fears he has done irreparable damage to his relationship with Chelsea’s fans.

‘It’s kind of brainless isn’t it. It’s some really brainless things to say,’ Nicol told ESPN FC.

‘Listen whenever you get pulled up when you’ve slaughtered somebody then you will start to spin it the other way and say ‘oh I didn’t mean that’.

‘He’s basically criticised the manager saying that what he’s told them isn’t true. He doesn’t like the way they play.

‘Who says that to the manager? And by the way, my heart is still at Inter. That’s exactly not what the fans want to hear. It’s brainless comments.’
