Matchday: Chelsea will go against Newcastle with either of this line-ups

Team news

Mateo Kovacic picked up a hamstring injury in training therefore he will not be available for some weeks.

Romelu Lukaku, Timo Werner and Christian Pulisic are not quite ready to play yet, they are currently recovering from injury.

Cesar Azpilicueta, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Andreas Christensen are back in contention after missing the Carabao Cup game. N’Golo Kante is also fit to play.

Jonjo Shelvey has served a one-game ban and can feature on Saturday. Martin Dubravka, Freddie Woodman and Paul Dummett remain sidelined with injuries.

Probable Chelsea line-up

Chelsea will be dominating possession against Newcastle’s deep block which is why a front three is the more likely way to go.

At the same time, Thomas Tuchel’s options there are limited, with Kai Havertz a nailed-on ‘false nine’ and Callum Hudson-Odoi expecting another start on the left wing.

The midfield duo picks itself after Kovacic’s injury (although Ruben Loftus-Cheek is in great shape too).

Ben Chilwell and Reece James are the in-form attacking wingbacks, while there are plenty of options for the back three. The players who were rested in the midweek could be given a nod, though.
