Man Utd and Chelsea bids for Monaco youngster

Manchester United and Chelsea are among a host of top clubs in talks to sign Monaco midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni, according to reports in France.

Tchouameni is one of Ligue 1’s brightest emerging talents and Europe’s elite are queuing up to land the gifted 22-year-old, who is enjoying his second full season with the Ligue 1 side.

Last couple of months has been a whirlwind for Tchouameni, with the sought-after youngster now an established international. He made his senior France debut against Bosnia and Herzegovina in September and looks a shoo-in to be included in Didier Deschamps’ squad for Qatar 2022.

Contrary to recent reports, RMC Sport insist no price has been set for Tchouameni by Monaco. However, the club are increasingly resigned to losing their prized possession and a summer departure ‘seems inevitable’ if they manage to keep hold of him this January.

According to reports, Man United, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Real Madrid and Barcelona are all in discussions with Tchouameni’s entourage, as well as Juventus, who failed with a move to sign the Frenchman last summer.

But it’s claimed Monaco are yet to receive any offers for Tchouameni this winter and the ex-Bordeaux man would only be interested in leaving for a club able to guarantee regular playing time.

Addressing the media last month, Monaco sporting director Paul Mitchell warned potential suitors that Tchouameni would not come cheap.

‘Tchouameni can be considered a top player and we would like to keep him,’ the told reporters.

‘His price tag? He’s as expensive as our Monte Carlo Casino.’

A ‘flattered’ Tchouameni insisted he remained fully focussed on seeing out a successful season with Monaco when pressed on the intense speculation surrounding his future back in November.

‘It’s flattering, but I don’t wake up in the morning thinking about it,’ he told L’Equipe.

‘When I started with Bordeaux, the media were already wondering every summer if Aurelien Tchouameni was going to move to a bigger club.

‘If I start to think that I’m going to leave, it will show directly in my performances on the pitch.’
