It is not surprising that Ben Chilwell made it to the list of most valuable left-backs in football. Before injury took him out, he was playing like the best left-sided defender in world football.
The left-back was thriving in his role as a wingback in Tuchel’s system, scoring goals and getting assists.
However, as per transfermarkt.com’s list, Chilwell is only the 8th most valuable left-back in the world.
Assigning him a value of €38 million, the website has ranked him below the likes of Jose Gaya and even Manchester United’s Luke Shaw.
Despite his injury being a serious one, Chilwell has already achieved more than a lot of the names above him in the list, so it’s almost bizarre to rank him that low.
The list is topped by Alphonso Davies and Andy Robertson, who are possibly the only two with a real case against Chilwell but surely he was the best left-sided defender in the Premier League this season before injury.
