All Chelsea Covid-19 cases and injury update ahead of Brentford match

Chelsea Team news

Chelsea boss, Thomas Tuchel has confirmed that his team are without seven players due to positive Covid-19 tests.

Confirmed positive cases include: Werner, Lukaku, Hudson-Odoi, Chilwell (who is also injured) and Baker.

Positive cases reported by journalists are Havertz and Loftus-Cheek.

Jorginho is available after returning a negative test.

Injuries: Chalobah and Christensen are major doubts against Brentford and are unlikely to play.

Fitness: Kante has been ruled out by Thomas Tuchel as he runs a huge risk of relapsing his injury if he plays against Brentford.

Ziyech picked up a knock against Wolves but Tuchel did not discuss his fitness in the presser before the Brentford game, so we assume he’s available.

At the moment of writing, it looks like the game will go through.

In total, Chelsea are without nine players — that’s not including Kante who is technically not injured.

Chelsea have a 27-man squad (23 outfield players and four goalkeepers). Without 9 injured and Covid-positive players, the Blues have 14 outfield players available.

According to the rules, requests to call off games would be accepted if a team has less than 13 outfield players and a goalkeeper.

It would take one further positive case for Chelsea to have legal grounds to get the game postponed.

As per reliable Nizaar Kinsella, the Blues are planning to use Academy players to complete the squad for Wednesday’s clash against Brentford. Twelve Academy players have reportedly been called up to the first team.
